Sit back, relax, and enjoy a fascinating exploration of the power, meaning, and importance that food holds in the Scriptures. As author Gary Graf notes, "with references to everything from coriander and cinnamon to pomegranates and lamb, the Good Book could very easily be called the Food Book."In previous books in the And God Said series, Graf has illuminated the connections between sports and the Bible, but in And God Said, "Let's Eat!" he delves into a topic much closer to our hearts...and our stomachs. After all, not only were food and wine a large part of the social and religious customs of biblical times, but Jesus and the prophets often used them to explain spiritual concepts. After reading this book, the reader will be inclined to place the book on the shelf with the rest of the cookbooks, not only for some of the good recipes in the book, but most of all for the inspiration and holiness it imparts to cooking and eating.Talking about everything from coriander, lamb and beans to pork, pomegranates and pasta, he points out throughout the book what scripture has to say about the particular foods. Whether it is addressing bread and the multiplication of it or the fact that the Pharisees chose to tithe with spices and ignore the weightier matters of law in justice, mercy and faith, Mr. Graf is able to teach while making our mouths water.
Throughout the book there are amusing and thought-provoking parallels between the bible and food. Food reference abound in the bible and Mr. Graf chooses them all carefully. The Lamb of God was no vague reference but probably referred to the fact that lamb was the chosen meat for great celebrations and feasts. And he doesn't limit his choices to only the New Testament but bravely forges into the Old Testament stories to point out our need for bread and the importance of eating only what we need.
Scriptural references and easy recipes abound in this book (be sure and try the Flash Fried Sage Leaves) and one will finish reading this with a full belly having feasted on the Word of God in a totally different way.
